    I've got a QC-42 (with the quick change gear assembly) which is a 10" November 1950 lathe. I've also got a 9" horizontal 36" from 1940. It was being sold at an estate from the original owner. He bought it, went to war (WWII) and returned to use it again. I've got the original bill of sale. Really cool.

    10F-28 is the part number for that part. Just about every cast part has the part number cast into it. It really helps when looking on eBay and people have parts misidentified; you can swoop down and buy them before other people realize what it is. OOPS....just gave away a secret!

    Im sorry to say.. 55*f is ideal..summer weather...since both are winter / cold capable w/ stove jacs the roof pitch on the Kodiac is a collapse waiting to gappen NOT enough pitch or support therefore the other tent with center pole to slide snow build-up off easier.. is the winner..

    Did Cabela's fix the recent material issue with the Alaknak? I have 5 older 12 x 12 Alaknak tents that are doing well. Last summer fellow guides bought a new Alaknak and when it poured the first night they had to abandoned the tent and sleep in their trucks. It leaked like a sieve! I asked a sale presentative about at Cabela's when in the camping section an she said DON'T BUY IT, these tents are being returned with the same problem. Just want to make sure folks know this is an issue that as far as I know showed up in 2023. Lucky for my fellow guides they had trucks to jump into. Imagine if this was a back country late season hunt where staying dry was critical to your safety and well being?

  • @ensignj3242
    @ensignj3242 3 місяці тому

    Mmmm at Lowe’s the dude told me to mix the glue (bonding agent into the cement first, and then add water until it’s thinner than pancake batter. He did not tell me to brush it on the existing concrete first.

    • @TheStigma
      @TheStigma 3 місяці тому

      Both are viable methods, but for a bit different purposes. Adding the bonding agent (at least the acrylic/latex type) into the concrete will make it flow and work better - as well as bond better. You shouldn't necessarily add this in with any type of mix though. In basic concrete and mortar mixes it enhances most aspects so it is hard to overdo it, but in heavily modified "specialty" mixes (like thinset levelers) there are already a bunch of additives in the mix to make it flow so easily - likely already including acrylic. Adding more may not be optimal. They already optimized it at the factory for the purpose. The other method of putting the bonder directly on the surface (often diluted with water) and pouring the concrete mix over it while it's still a bit sticky is optimal for the adhesion specifically, so that's probably the way to go in this case. I'm not an expert by any stretch. This is just what I've picked up while researching for myself.

    • @Debtfreehomesteaders
      @Debtfreehomesteaders 4 місяці тому

      Yes you can. But more vents or a larger vent will only create value up to the point that your air volume in is equal to the fluid volume going out. Beyond that point it’s just a waste. Great question! Thanks for watching. -Will

      @@Debtfreehomesteaders You are welcome. For me I do not want to hold a 40 pound gas can any longer than absolutely necessary. I did modify one of those spouts to remove restriction, then added hose on the plastic spout, then added a piece of copper pipe to the end so it stays IN the filler neck. I can now set the can on the bed rail, insert the hose, and not have to hold it. But that too takes longer than I want so ordering a set of those nice metal vents. Not sure if I want to drill a hole on the only Gerry Can I have though. Rest are plastic. My plastic gas cans are not midwest - cheap walmart brand. Not sure I can buy replacement spouts to upgrade them. May have to try another method.

      The Kodiak has a ridge pole that runs horizontally across the top as shown. There is a center pole very similar to the pole in the Alaknak that you can additionally place for added support in heavy snow load conditions. My Alaknak tore at the top of the center pole during a rain and wind storm near the Grand Canyon. The tent fabric is not strong enough to hold during windy conditions. I had the tent for 2 years and went on three hunts. I carried it into Brass Pro and the manager said warranty is one year and I needed the receipt. I asked for any kind of help since I paiod $1000 for a tent I used 3 times; maybe another Alaknak or a small discount to purchase another tent. I reminded him I used the tent 3 times onloy... any kind of help would be appreciated. He told me no discounts and he could not help me out. I asked where dumpster was and he said behind the store; I said okey and threw tent onto couner and told him to throw it away. I later spoke to bass pro on phone and they said I shud have called them and they would have tried to help me. I could have sent tent into them for evaluation nd said there was a chance for help. I said they shud teach their managers this so they can be more helpful to cutomer who spend all their money there.

There's videos of alaknak set up for two years without leaking etc. Canvas it very difficult to dry out and it gets a funky smell in time. I had an older alaknak and it was a solid tent in cooler weather. my understanding is they changed the fabric after the one I had to make it a touch lighter but at the expense of breathability I don't have the kodiak cabin but I di have the spring bow with the large side vents and it is a very solid tent. I would say my only gripe is the door sippers at the corners can be a pain with one hand. I may try using some graphite to help it around the bend. I have had some slight leaking at the corners. I will say that the benefit of the alaknak is the vestibule option. it is big enough to use as a small cook station as well as boot removal to keep the interior clean. The nice thing about the spring bow is that you can keep some air circulation even in rainy weather.

    I have a 12x12 canvas spike tent, a for in each end and 1 window on each side. I don't think i would like all those windows, to many weather intrusion places. Vestibules are almost necessary, wish i had bought the bigger fly that had the vestibule. Lighter weight would be nice, mine is in 2 large totes plus the stove. I would prefer the Kodiak tent too. I think Cabela's had one that had sleeping pods that zipped onto it leaving the main floor area clear of cots or sleeping bags, i thought that was pretty cool but imagine the pods would be colder at night
